    Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has responded to the accumulation of excess liquidity in the banking system by issuing another reverse repo. After previously issuing reverse repos on two separate occasions, NRB has now introduced Rs. 20 Arba on Tuesday. The reverse repo is a monetary tool utilized to absorb surplus liquidity and bring stability to the system. Considering there is approximately Rs. 40 Arba of excess liquidity in the system, this marks the fourth reverse repo issued by NRB during the current financial year.

    In the domestic market today, the price of fine gold has decreased by Rs. 600 per tola. The current trading rate for fine gold, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association’s official website, is Rs. 110,000 per tola, compared to yesterday’s rate of Rs. 110,600 per tola. Similarly, the price of tejabi gold has fallen by Rs. 550, with today’s trading rate at Rs. 109,500 per tola, compared to yesterday’s rate of Rs. 110,000 per tola.

    Today, the price of fine gold in the domestic market has dropped by Rs. 700 per tola, while the price of tejabi gold has fallen by Rs. 650 compared to yesterday’s rates. According to the official website of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold is currently being traded at Rs. 109,800 per tola, whereas yesterday it was priced at Rs. 110,500 per tola. Similarly, tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 109,300 today, whereas it was priced at Rs. 109,950 per tola yesterday.

    The NEPSE index experienced a decline today, closing at 2,050.78 points, which reflects a loss of 14.05 points from the previous trading day. This translates to a decrease of 0.68% in the index value. Yesterday, the index had also experienced a decline of 26.56 points.

    During today’s trading session, the index opened at 2,067.21 points and reached its highest point of the day at 2,082.97. However, it also dropped to a low of 2,043.84 before settling at the closing value of 2,050.78.

    In terms of trading activity, there were 271 scrips (individual securities) exchanged through 59,813 transactions. The total number of shares traded was 8,651,164, amounting to a turnover of Rs. 3.49 Arba. It’s worth noting that today’s turnover is lower than the turnover of Rs. 4.11 Arba observed in the previous trading day.

    Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been successful in collecting revenue amounting to Rs. 8 Arba during the 11 months of the current financial year. Dhruv Kafle, who heads the Revenue Department, mentioned that the collected amount of Rs. 8 Arba 29 crores 95 lakhs 59 thousand 278 came from internal income, revenue distribution, and internal subsidy. This figure represents 79 percent of the city’s revenue target.

    For the current year, the Metropolis had set a revenue target of Rs. 10 Arba 42 crores 95 lakhs. They have made significant progress in generating internal revenue, achieving 98.87 percent of the targeted amount from internal sources. Out of the revenue target of Rs. 4 Arba and 85 crores, the Metropolitan collected Rs. 4 Arba and 77 crores. This amount is one billion more than the previous year, as reported by the Revenue Department.

    Asian Life Insurance Company Limited (ALICL) has successfully listed 24,71,894.42 unit bonus shares on the NEPSE (Nepal Stock Exchange). The company’s 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on the 18th of Baisakh, approved an 8.947% dividend for the fiscal year 2078/79. Subsequently, in a meeting of the board of directors held on Falgun 30, it was decided to distribute 8.50% bonus shares valued at Rs. 24.71 crores and a 0.447% cash dividend (for tax purposes) valued at a little over Rs. 1.30 crores. These dividends were proposed from the paid-up capital of Rs. 2.90 Arba.

    Following the listing, the bonus shares of ALICL are now available for trading on the NEPSE. As of the current market data, the Last Traded Price (LTP) of ALICL stands at Rs. 695. Investors and traders can actively participate in the buying and selling of these shares in the stock market.

    The listing of the bonus shares on the NEPSE provides an opportunity for investors to benefit from the additional shares distributed by Asian Life Insurance Company Limited.     Rawa Energy Development Limited has announced the opening of its initial public offering (IPO) of 643,667 unit shares with a face value of Rs. 100 per share. The IPO subscription period begins on 18th Jestha, 2080 and ends on 22nd Jestha. In the event of undersubscription, the closing date may be extended until 32nd Jestha, 2080.

    Previously, the company had issued 280,000 unit shares worth Rs. 2.8 crores to project-affected locals in Khotang District. However, only 87,370 units were allotted to valid applicants, leaving 192,330 units unsubscribed. These remaining shares, along with 560,000 units (20% of the issued capital) reserved for the general public, make up a total of 752,330 units available for the general public.

    Out of the total 752,330 units, 56,000 units have already been issued and allotted to Nepalese citizens working abroad, while 37,616 units have been set aside for mutual funds, and 15,047 units have been reserved for the company’s employees. The remaining 643,667 units are offered to the general public.

    The company aims to raise Rs. 6.43 crore through this IPO. Prabhu Capital Limited has been appointed as the issue manager for the IPO, and interested applicants can apply for a minimum of 10 units and a maximum of 10,000 units.

    CARE Ratings Nepal Limited (CRNL) has assigned an issuer rating of ‘CARE-NP BB (Is)’ to Rawa Energy Development Limited. This rating suggests a moderate risk of default in terms of timely financial obligations in Nepal.

    Rawa Energy Development Ltd, initially incorporated as a private limited company on August 16, 2009, later converted to a public limited company on June 28, 2019. The company is promoted by experienced individuals in the hydropower and other sectors, with a focus on developing hydroelectric projects in Nepal. The company’s flagship project is the 3 MW Upper Rawa Khola Small Hydropower Project (URKHP) in Khotang District, which has been in commercial operation since September 20, 2020. The project follows the BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer) mechanism.

    Just the day before, gold prices had already reached an all-time high in Nepal, with fine gold priced at Rs. 112,000 per tola and Tejabi gold priced at Rs. 111,450 per tola. The continuous rise in gold prices has prompted discussions on the reasons behind the significant increase of Rs. 3,900 per tola in just two days in Nepal.

    In addition to gold, the price of silver has also experienced an increase of Rs. 15 per tola. Currently, silver is being traded at Rs. 1,410 per tola in the local market, compared to the previous day’s closing rate of Rs. 1,395 per tola.

    Within a span of two days, the price of gold has risen by Rs. 3900 per tola. The fluctuation in gold and silver prices is partly attributed to the absence of a clear response regarding customs rates related to these precious metals in the budget for 2080/081.

    Just recently, on May 4th, 2023, the price of gold hit an all-time high in the Nepalese market. Fine gold was traded at Rs. 111,800 per tola, while Tejabi gold reached Rs. 111,250 per tola on that day.

    In addition, silver has also experienced a gain of Rs. 20 per tola. The shiny white metal is currently being traded at Rs. 1,395 per tola in the local market, compared to the previous day’s closing rate of Rs. 1,375 per tola.
