    Himalayan Distillery Limited Reports 51.24% Drop in Q1 Net Profit, Reveals Financial Performance for FY 2080/81


    In the recently released financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2080/81, Himalayan Distillery Limited (HDL) revealed a substantial 51.24% decline in net profit, dropping to Rs 10.51 crore from Rs 21.5 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY 2079/80. The company faced a notable downturn in revenue, experiencing a 29.70% decrease to Rs 97.18 crore in Q1 2080/81, compared to Rs 1.38 arba in the same quarter of FY 2079/80. Despite this challenging financial scenario, HDL saw a positive surge in other operating income, marking a 73.25% increase to Rs 59.11 lakhs from Rs 34.12 lakhs in the previous year.

    As outlined in the financial report, Himalayan Distillery’s share capital currently stands at Rs 2.42 Arba, with other equity amounting to Rs 1.03 Arba. Key financial metrics include an annualized Earnings Per Share (EPS) of Rs 17.32, reflecting the company’s performance on a per-share basis. However, the quarter-end Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio stands at 107.22 times. The net worth per share is reported at Rs 142.41.

    The report also provides a detailed breakdown of major financial highlights, showcasing changes in paid-up capital, other equity, property, plant and equipment, investment, trade receivables, revenue from operation, other income, administration expenses, selling and distribution expenses, and net profit. The annualized EPS is noteworthy, indicating the company’s earnings per share on an annual basis. The net worth per share has decreased to Rs 142.41, reflecting a 29.37% decline. The quarter-end P/E ratio is reported at 107.22.

    The Iwa Khola Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 9.9 MW and operated by Ridi Power Company Limited (RIDI), is currently facing disruptions in its commercial electricity production. The interruption is a result of damages caused by recent floods in the area.

    RIDI released a press statement informing that both units of the Iwa Khola Hydropower Project have ceased commercial electricity production since Ashad 1st, 2080, due to the flood-induced damages. The floodwaters have caused significant harm to the project’s headworks, headrace pipe, equipment at the powerhouse, and other infrastructure.

    This incident is part of a larger issue affecting several hydropower projects in Nepal. According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association – Nepal (IPPAN), a total of 13 hydropower projects, including the Iwa Khola Hydropower Project, have suffered damages during the floods on Ashad 1st and 2nd. These affected projects collectively have a capacity of 150 MW.

    The damages inflicted by the floods have resulted in a setback for the operation of the Iwa Khola Hydropower Project and other affected projects. Efforts will be required to repair and restore the damaged infrastructure before the resumption of commercial electricity production can take place.

    The NEPSE index concluded the trading day at 2,091.39 points, experiencing a slight decline of 2.94 points from the previous day’s closing. This translates to a loss of 0.14%. In contrast, the index had recorded a significant gain of 52.26 points in the previous session.

    At the start of the trading day, the index opened at 2,097.53 points and reached its highest point at 2,107.60. However, it also dipped to a low of 2,075.21 before ultimately settling at 2,091.39 at the closing bell.

    A total of 276 different stocks were traded, with a considerable number of 69,168 transactions taking place. Throughout these trades, a significant volume of shares, totaling 12,975,168, were exchanged, resulting in a turnover amount of Rs. 4.74 Arba. This represents a decrease in turnover compared to the previous trading day, which recorded a turnover of Rs. 4.86 Arba.

    SHIVAM CEMENTS LTD (SHIVM) stood out with the highest turnover of Rs. 29.82 crores, closing at a market price of Rs. 563.50 per share. The shares of HIDCLP also saw notable trading activity.

    Six stocks experienced an upward trend and hit the positive circuit for the day, reflecting a significant increase in their market value. On the other hand, Unique Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (UNLB) witnessed a substantial loss of 10% during today’s trading.

    Among the various sector indices, only five closed in the green, with the “Finance” sector showing the highest gain of 5.22%. However, the “Non-Life Insurance” sector recorded the highest loss of 2.48% for the day.

    This week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) had only four trading days as Monday was a holiday due to Republic Day. At the end of the week, the NEPSE index closed at 1,866.34, experiencing a loss of 92.78 points or -4.74%. In the previous week, the index had closed at 1,959.12, showing a gain of 4.36% compared to the week before.

    Throughout the week, the NEPSE index reached a high of 1,977.36 and a low of 1,837.43, indicating a volatility of 139.93 points. In the previous week, the volatility was 96.44 points. The largest intraday gain occurred on Tuesday, with an increase of 53.16 points and a turnover of Rs. 2.3 Arba. The total turnover for the week amounted to Rs. 8.95 Arba. In terms of trading volume, more than 2.89 crore unit shares were traded through 155,123 transactions.

    The current market capitalization of NEPSE stands at Rs. 2,74,651.40 million, which is equivalent to Rs. 27.24 Kharba. Despite the shortened trading week, the NEPSE experienced fluctuations and ended with a significant decrease in its index value.
