    In the initial seven months of the current fiscal year, spanning from Shrawan to Magh in the Nepali calendar, Nepal’s imports reached Rs. 8.97 Kharba, indicating a slight decrease of 2.31% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, where imports totaled Rs. 9.19 Kharba.

    During this period, the trade deficit has also witnessed a reduction of 1.77%, amounting to Rs. 8.11 Kharba in the current fiscal year, as opposed to Rs. 8.25 Kharba recorded in the same timeframe of the previous year.

    Simultaneously, there has been a notable decline in Nepal’s exports, experiencing a 7.07% decrease. The total value of exported goods and services for the first seven months of the current fiscal year amounted to Rs. 86.83 Arba, in contrast to the Rs. 93.43 Arba worth of exports during the equivalent period in the preceding year. These statistics, derived from data released by the Customs Department, highlight the dynamics of Nepal’s trade performance, showcasing a nuanced interplay of import and export figures in the given fiscal timeframe.

    The price of gold has witnessed a notable decrease of Rs. 2,400 per tola today, as reported by the official website of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The current value of fine gold is recorded at Rs. 1,19,200 per tola, representing a decline from its previous day’s stable position at Rs. 1,21,600 per tola. Similarly, Tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 1,18,650 today, reflecting a decrease of Rs. 2,350 per tola from its yesterday’s rate of Rs. 1,21,000 per tola.

    In contrast to the recent decrease, just a day before, on December 4, 2023, fine gold had achieved a historic high of Rs. 1,21,600 per tola, and Tejabi gold had surged to Rs. 1,21,000, setting a record at that time.

    Additionally, silver has also seen a decline of Rs. 45 per tola, with the current market rate standing at Rs. 1,500 per tola, compared to its closing rate of Rs. 1,545 per tola the day before.

    The global decline in gold prices, currently at $2,031.90 per ounce, has had a significant impact on the domestic bullion market. Simultaneously, silver is being traded at $24.50 per ounce on the international market.

This marks a significant increase from the previous day when the same amount of fine gold was priced at Rs. 113,200 per tola. Tejabi gold, another variety, has also seen a notable rise in its price and is currently trading at Rs. 113,150 per tola, up from the previous rate of Rs. 112,650 per tola.

    This surge in gold prices in the Nepalese market brings to mind the last time such record-breaking prices were witnessed, which was on July 20. On that day, fine gold was valued at Rs. 113,600 per tola, and Tejabi gold was priced at Rs. 113,050 per tola.

    In contrast, the silver market has experienced a slight decrease, with the price of silver declining by Rs. 15 per tola. Currently, silver is trading at Rs. 1,395 per tola, compared to the previous day’s closing rate of Rs. 1,410 per tola.

    It’s worth noting that these notable price fluctuations in the local market align with global trends. Currently, the global price for gold stands at USD $1,946.80 per ounce, while silver is being traded at $22.90 per ounce. These changes reflect both local and international dynamics in the precious metals market.
