    The NEPSE (Nepal Stock Exchange) index concluded today’s trading session at 1,901.99 points, reflecting a loss of 17.38 points from the previous closing. This represents a decrease of 0.91% in the index. However, it is worth noting that the index had experienced a gain of 53.03 points in the preceding trading session.

    At the beginning of today’s trading, the index opened at 1,922.13 points. Throughout the day, it reached an intraday high of 1,935.80 points. However, it also experienced a dip, with the lowest point recorded at 1,899.54 points before ultimately closing at 1,901.99 points. These fluctuations in the index’s value indicate the dynamic nature of the stock market and the varying levels of buying and selling activity by investors.

    During the trading session, a total of 277 scrips were traded through 36,568 transactions.     Interestingly, despite the market being scheduled to open at 11:00 am this morning, all 50 current brokers were still non-operational. In light of this situation, a meeting was arranged with relevant stakeholders at the Ministry of Finance’s Singhadurbar headquarters. During the meeting, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, the current finance minister, emphasized that investors should remain calm and assured them that the only tax applicable to profits from trading shares would be the Capital Gain Tax (CGT).

    The trading day commenced with the index opening at 1,866.35 points. At its lowest point in the intraday session, it reached 1,865.73 points. However, it experienced a significant surge, reaching as high as 1,925.11 points before ultimately closing at 1,919.37 points.     The trading day began with an opening value of 1,850.79 for the index, and it reached its lowest point at 1,837.24 during intraday trading. On the other hand, it reached a peak of 1,877.00 before settling at 1,866.34 at the end of the day.

    A total of 272 scrips were traded through 29,922 transactions. The trading volume amounted to 6,128,621 shares, resulting in a turnover of Rs. 1.65 Arba. It is important to note that this turnover was lower than the previous trading day’s turnover of Rs. 2.31 Arba.

    Among the various stocks traded, Prabhu Bank Limited Promoter Share (PRVUPO) had the highest turnover of Rs. 23.21 crores, with a closing market price of Rs. 102 per share.

    Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd (JOSHI) showed the highest increase for the day, with a gain of 6.94%. Conversely, Sunrise Focused Equity Fund (SFEF) experienced the highest decline, losing 6% during the trading day.

    All sector indices concluded the day on a positive note, with the “Non-Life Insurance” sector experiencing the highest gain of 1.93%. The “Mutual Fund” sector had the smallest gain of 0.06% on the day.

    Gold prices have once again grabbed attention as they reached a record high today. The surge in value amounts to a significant single-day gain of Rs. 1500 compared to yesterday’s price.

    According to the official website of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold is currently being traded at Rs. 112,000 per tola, whereas it was maintained at Rs. 110,500 per tola yesterday. Similarly, Tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 111,450 today, whereas the rate was held at Rs. 109,950 per tola on the previous day.

    Within a span of two days, the price of gold has risen by Rs. 3900 per tola. The fluctuation in gold and silver prices is partly attributed to the absence of a clear response regarding customs rates related to these precious metals in the budget for 2080/081.

    Just recently, on May 4th, 2023, the price of gold hit an all-time high in the Nepalese market. Fine gold was traded at Rs. 111,800 per tola, while Tejabi gold reached Rs. 111,250 per tola on that day.

    In addition, silver has also experienced a gain of Rs. 20 per tola. The shiny white metal is currently being traded at Rs. 1,395 per tola in the local market, compared to the previous day’s closing rate of Rs. 1,375 per tola.

    Throughout the week, the NEPSE index recorded a high of 1,962.55 and a low of 1,866.11, resulting in a volatility of 96.44 points. Comparatively, the previous week had witnessed a volatility of 75.16 points. The fluctuation in the index indicates a certain level of market volatility and movement in stock prices throughout the trading days of the week.

    Shivam Cements Limited (SHIVM) emerged as the most actively traded stock, generating the highest turnover of Rs. 14.6 crores. The market price of SHIVM shares closed at Rs. 466 per share.

    Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ANLB) experienced the highest gain of 10% and reached the positive circuit during the day’s trading.

    On the other hand, Sanima Equity Fund (SAEF) recorded the highest loss of 3.77% during the trading session.

    While the “Manufacturing And Processing” sector index registered the highest gain of 4.69%, the “Finance” sector index experienced the highest decline of 0.45% at the closing of the market.

    According to regulatory guidelines, the 93rd meeting of the board of directors of Chhyangdi Hydropower Company Ltd (CHL) convened on Tuesday Chaitra 21, 2079 agreed to issue 100% right shares on a paid-up capital of Rs. 38.67 Crores.

    Earlier, the business sought to issue right shares in the ratio of 150% of the paid-up capital, i.e. 1:1.5, after gaining regulatory permission. Yet, the decision was submitted for approval at the company’s annual general meeting.

    On March 19, 2023, the price of gold reached an all-time high on the Nepali market. Fine gold cost Rs. 110,000 a tola, while tejabi gold cost Rs. 109,500.
