The Tanahu Hydropower Project is building in Jhaputar, Rishing Rural Municipality-1. Locals fear that when the project starts working, Belbas will face flooding. They worry about long-term safety. So, they are protesting more and want quick help from government.
Why Belbas at Risk from Tanahu Hydropower Project?
Meghnath Acharya from the Concern Committee said Belbas will surely flood because of the project. He said affected families need fair compensation. Some structures made for project safety have made the village more unsafe.
An Asian Development Bank (ADB) report also says Belbas can sink under water after the project runs. Locals say the wall built to protect project office has changed the Seti River flow. Now, river comes toward Belbas. This makes danger much higher.
Acharya warned that big flood in Seti River can wash away whole Belbas. People may need to move to new place. He said government must give good compensation and new homes for all affected families.
About 170 households can face problems from this hydropower project Nepal.
