    Government Sets Minimum Purchase Price for Sugarcane to Boost Farmer Compensation


    During a recent Cabinet meeting held at Singhadurbar, the government made a significant decision to establish the minimum purchase price for sugarcane at Rs 635 per quintal. The official announcement of this decision was made by government spokesperson Rekha Sharma.

    As per the newly implemented regulation, sugarcane mills are now required to directly pay Rs 565 per quintal to the farmers. Additionally, the government will extend a subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal to support farmers involved in the sugarcane industry.

    Spokesperson Sharma also revealed that the meeting involved a comprehensive review of the government’s progress over the past year. Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal presented insights during the session, emphasizing the urgency to expedite government activities and enhance decision-making processes, laws, and legislation.

    This decision is anticipated to have a positive impact on sugarcane farmers, ensuring they receive fair and reasonable compensation for their produce. Ultimately, it is expected to contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

    On August 20, 2023, Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company Limited (HDHPC) initiated the bidding process for 15,77,211 units of its regular shares available for the public. These shares were part of the remaining portion from their rights offering. Initially, the company had offered a 1:0.75 ratio right share opportunity to its eligible shareholders between 22nd Jestha and 25th Ashad, 2080. The unsold right shares were then put up for auction to the general public from 22nd to 29th Shrawan, 2080. The auction was managed by Laxmi Capital Market, with the final bid cut-off rate set at Rs. 120.

    In the financial year 2079/80, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) achieved a remarkable milestone by approving initial public offerings (IPOs) worth over 22 billion rupees. This surpasses the previous record set in the financial year 2077/78, when SEBON allowed IPOs worth 15 billion 18 crores. Chairman Ramesh Hamal led the effort, breaking the previous record set during Bhishma Raj Dhungana’s tenure.

    Gold has reached a new record high in Nepal, with the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association (FENEGOSIDA) reporting that it is being traded at Rs. 1 lakh 13 thousand 600 per tola. This represents an increase of Rs. 500 compared to the previous day’s price. Just a day before, on Jestha 19, the price of gold had already reached an all-time high of Rs. 1 lakh 13 thousand 300 per tola.

    On the day before, the price of gold had risen by Rs. 600 to reach Rs. 1 lakh 13 thousand 100. The upward trend in gold prices has been remarkable in recent days, leading to these consecutive record highs.

    As for silver, its price also saw an increase on Thursday, reaching Rs. 1495 per tola, which is Rs. 5 more than the previous day’s price of Rs. 1,490 per tola.

    In the international market, the price of gold has been trading at $1979.82 per ounce on Thursday, after remaining steady at $1974.44 an ounce on Wednesday. Similarly, silver was priced at $24.99 per ounce on Wednesday and experienced a slight rise to $25.1 on Thursday.

    The surging prices of gold and silver in both the local and international markets have drawn attention from investors and traders, indicating a trend of increasing precious metal prices in the current economic scenario.

    Gold has once again broken its all-time high record by increasing Rs. 800 from yesterday’s price. As reported by the official website of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the current trading rate for fine gold stands at Rs. 113,300 per tola, compared to yesterday’s rate of Rs. 112,500 per tola. Similarly, Tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 112,750 today, while yesterday’s rate was maintained at Rs. 111,950 per tola.

    Yesterday, the price of gold reached an unprecedented high, with tejabi gold priced at Rs. 111,950 per tola and fine gold at Rs. 112,500 per tola. Alongside this, silver has also witnessed an increase of Rs. 25 per tola. Currently, silver is being traded in the local market at Rs. 1,435 per tola, compared to yesterday’s closing rate of Rs. 1,410 per tola.

    Gold prices continue to break all-time highs. Today’s increase is due to a single-day gain of Rs. 2000 in fine gold, while tejabi gold has climbed by Rs. 1,950 from yesterday’s price.

    According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association’s official website, fine gold is now trading at Rs. 111,000 per tola. Yesterday, the tariff remained unchanged at Rs. 109,000 per tola. Meanwhile, Tejabi gold is currently trading at Rs. 110,450. In contrast, the cost was kept at Rs. 108,500 per tola yesterday.

    On March 19, 2023, the price of gold reached an all-time high on the Nepali market. Fine gold cost Rs. 110,000 a tola, while tejabi gold cost Rs. 109,500.

    The “Mega Mutual Fund 1 (MMF1)” NAV report for the month of Falgun has been released.

    “Mega Mutual Fund 1” is a closed-end fund with a 10-year maturity period. The fund size for the initial issue was Rs. 1.25 Arba.

    The fund has invested Rs. 83.86 crores in Falgun’s listed shares. Non-listed shares were worth Rs. 3.66 crores, and fixed deposits were worth Rs. 10 crores. The fund has bank deposits worth Rs. 3.30 crores and other assets worth Rs. 2.39 crores.

    For the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2079/80, the government’s budget deficit exceeded Rs. 1.56 Kharba. By the end of Falgun, the government had spent 7.79 Kharba of its budget, but had only collected 6.22 Kharba in total revenue.

    Meanwhile, only 22.15% of capital expenditure (CAPEX) is used until the end of Falgun’s fiscal year 2079/80.

    The government’s capital expenditure is the money spent on the development of physical assets. In Nepal, the capital budget is funded by balancing domestic revenue after the recurrent budget, grants, and loans have been met. According to the Financial Comptroller General Office, only Rs. 84.25 Arba of the capital budget has been spent out of the targeted budget of Rs. 3.80 Kharba.

    The second plan of the Prabhu Capital Collective Investment Fund is now available for issue and sale as of 18 Falgun 2079. This fund issued 8 crore units worth Rs 80 crore at a fixed price of Rs 10 per unit.

    Prabhu Bank Ltd is the fund promoter of this plan, while Prabhu Capital Limited is the scheme manager. This is a closed-ended plan. This scheme will invest 35 to 90 percent of the proceeds from unit sales in shares, making it an equity-oriented scheme.

    Prabhu Bank Limited has obtained 1.12 crore units out of a total of 8 crore units available, while Prabhu Capital Limited has secured 8 lakh units.
