ABC Securities Private Limited commenced its operations on the 10th of Shrawan, 2054 B.S. (25th July 1997), earning the distinction of being one of the pioneering 25 firms to be awarded a Brokerage License by the Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. Originally known as Khandelwal Stock Broking Co. Pvt. Ltd., the company underwent a transformation on the 10th of Jestha in the year 2066 B.S. (24th May 2009), changing its name to ABC Securities Pvt. Ltd. due to a change in ownership. This transformation was made possible by the authorization of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. (NEPSE), and CDS & Clearing Ltd., granting ABC Securities Pvt. Ltd. licenses to operate in stock brokerage services, clearing services, and depository participant services (CDSCL).

In its initial years, the company was under the stewardship of the late Mr. Sajjan Kumar Agrawal, who instilled a culture of ethics and a relentless pursuit of improvement throughout the organization. Presently, Mr. Nitesh Kumar Agrawal and Mr. Yogesh Kumar Agrawal are the sole shareholders of the company. Mr. Nitesh Kumar Agrawal, as the Executive Chairman, oversees the general operations of the company, while Mr. Yogesh Kumar Agrawal is responsible for the company’s Remote Work Station (RWS) located in the eastern city of Dharan, Nepal.

ABC Securities Pvt. Ltd. has marked several milestones in its journey. Notably, it became the first brokerage firm to offer brokerage services in the eastern metropolis of Nepal, Dharan, starting from the 20th of Mangsir, 2070 B.S. (5th December 2013). This strategic move aimed to extend access to capital markets to residents living outside the Kathmandu Valley, thereby opening up investment opportunities for a broader audience. Through this initiative, ABC Securities facilitated direct access to Nepalese financial markets for investors in Dharan and neighboring cities, solidifying its position among the top brokers in Nepal in terms of trading volume among all the RWS operating in the country.

Throughout its journey, ABC Securities has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Nepal’s capital markets. It transitioned from the Open Out Cry System to the semi-automated trading system NEPSECTS and, eventually, to the NEPSE Online Trading System (NOTS) following the establishment of the Nepal Stock Exchange. Kantipur Television (KTV) is a private television station based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Kailash Sirohiya is the chairman and managing director. KTV, which debuted in July 2002, is licensed for both terrestrial and satellite transmission. Tinkune is the headquarters of Kantipur Television. On the 17th Chaitra, 2079, Kantipur Television Network Limited will hold its Special General Meeting (SGM). The meeting will begin at 1 PM in the company’s headquarters in Tinkune, Kathmandu.

Nepal Telecom – NTC 5G Trial Commences in Nepal

Nepal Telecom (NTC), the country’s state-owned telecoms operator, has officially launched its long-awaited 5G trial to commemorate the company’s 19th anniversary. Nepal Telecom, the country’s state-owned telecom operator, had previously postponed 5G testing due to a lack of a device ecosystem. To commemorate its 19th anniversary, the telco tested its 5G cellular network in Babarmahal and Sundhara.

Spectrum

The network deployed in the Kathmandu districts of Sundhara and Babarmahal is using the 60 MHz spectrum in the 2600 MHz band given by the government. The 2600 MHz band provides a good balance of speed and coverage. According to a Nepalitelecom report, the trials are not available to the public and are conducted internally.

The initial trials, which were supposed to begin in January 2023, have already begun one month later than projected. Nepal Telecom’s July 2021 trials were canceled when a change in administration hindered the requisite spectrum allocation.

Sunil Paudel, MD of Nepal Telecom (NTC), has formally declared the launch of the long-awaited 5G experiment. However, no official launch date for 5G has been announced, however, officials have stated that it “should launch shortly.” Managing Director Sunil Paudel noted in a progress update on the company’s planned 5G rollout that Nepal Telecom (NT) has yet to evaluate the capabilities of its present mobile infrastructure to handle commercial 5G services in the future.

Non-Standalone 5G (NSA)

Nepal Telecom Corporation (NTC) will begin its 5G testing using Non-standalone (NSA) architecture and subsequently advance to Standalone architecture (SA). By changing the basic software, the NSA allows the operator to launch its 5G network on its existing 4G LTE infrastructure. The business has already developed two 5G-ready sites in Babarmahal and Sundhara. NTC is now testing available 5G devices on the network in Babarmahal and Sundhara, having installed the essential equipment at both locations.

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) – A Short Introduction

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is the country’s sole stock exchange. It is located in Kathmandu, Nepal, at Singha Durbar Plaza.

In 2033 BS, the government established a security purchasing and trading center in Nepal. In 2050 BS, the same location became the Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE).

On January 13, 1994, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) inaugurated its trading floor (29 Poush, 2050). It is Nepal’s sole stock exchange. As of May 13, 2020, the total market capitalisation of the companies listed on NEPSE is around Rs 1.54 trillion.

Objectives of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE)

The primary function of the stock exchange is to facilitate the trading of listed securities. NEPSE has been trying to register publicly issued securities in the secondary market so that they can be traded easily. This is referred to as listing.

The Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) is a specialized government-owned entity governed by the Companies Act. It does business in compliance with the Securities Act. Its principal goal is to assist to the country’s economic development through capital formation and mobilization, as well as to stimulate investor interest by establishing a secondary market for the trading of securities issued by the Government of Nepal and organizations.

Nepse has been a prominent regulatory organization in terms of market operations, listed firms, and securities dealers, in keeping with its goal of trading shares, bonds, mutual fund units, and other securities through member brokers.

At the moment, the Nepal Stock Exchange offers general investors the ability to purchase and sell securities through 50 member brokers and 41 Remote Work Stations (RWS) in key cities both inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley.

The brokerage firm and its branches are spread across 21 different cities in Nepal.

Nepal’s capital market is in its early phases of development due to the size of the market, kind of company, financial instruments to be exchanged, laws and regulations, technology utilized for business, other physical infrastructure, manpower, and so on.

Similarly, Nepse is a founder member and current Executive Board Member of the South Asian Federation of Exchanges. It is also an Affiliate Member of the World Federation of Exchanges, with plans to become a full member soon.

Board of Directors of Nepal Stock Exchange

According to the Securities Act of 2006, the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is made up of members from various sectors. The BOD now consists of two members from the Nepal Government, one from Nepal Rastra Bank, and one from Rastriya Banijya Bank. Furthermore, the BOD will propose one member as a capital market expert. NEPSE’s General Manager will serve as a director on the BOD.

Nepse Index reached its all-time high of 1881.45 on July 27, 2016.
