    In the initial seven months of the current fiscal year, spanning from Shrawan to Magh in the Nepali calendar, Nepal’s imports reached Rs. 8.97 Kharba, indicating a slight decrease of 2.31% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, where imports totaled Rs. 9.19 Kharba.

    During this period, the trade deficit has also witnessed a reduction of 1.77%, amounting to Rs. 8.11 Kharba in the current fiscal year, as opposed to Rs. 8.25 Kharba recorded in the same timeframe of the previous year.

    Simultaneously, there has been a notable decline in Nepal’s exports, experiencing a 7.07% decrease. The total value of exported goods and services for the first seven months of the current fiscal year amounted to Rs. 86.83 Arba, in contrast to the Rs. 93.43 Arba worth of exports during the equivalent period in the preceding year.     As of now, the value of fine gold remains steady at Rs. 111,300 per tola, while tejabi gold is being sold at Rs. 110,750 per tola. In comparison, just yesterday (Wednesday), the price of fine gold was Rs. 112,000 per tola, and tejabi gold was priced at Rs. 111,450.

    The banking sector in Nepal has recently witnessed a decrease in the interbank interest rate, indicating an increase in liquidity within the system. According to data provided by Nepal Rastra Bank, the interbank interest rate of banks has fallen below 1 percent. Specifically, on Ashad 27, the interbank interest rate remained stable at 0.83 percent.

    In parallel, the average Cash Deposit (CD) ratio experienced a decline on Ashad 27, reaching 81.67 percent compared to the 82.11 percent recorded on Ashad 25. This decline in the CD ratio can be attributed to the infusion of an additional Rs. 23 Arba into the banking system.

    As of Ashad 25, the total deposits held by banks and financial institutions amounted to Rs. 57.13 Kharba. By Ashad 27, this figure had increased to Rs. 57.36 Kharba. Moreover, the credit investment by banks stood at Rs. 48.51 Kharba.

    Overall, these developments indicate a higher level of liquidity within the banking sector in Nepal, reflected by the decrease in interbank interest rates and the rise in total deposits. This increased liquidity provides potential opportunities for financial institutions to support credit investment and drive economic growth.

    This week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) had only four trading days as Monday was a holiday due to Republic Day. At the end of the week, the NEPSE index closed at 1,866.34, experiencing a loss of 92.78 points or -4.74%. In the previous week, the index had closed at 1,959.12, showing a gain of 4.36% compared to the week before.

    Throughout the week, the NEPSE index reached a high of 1,977.36 and a low of 1,837.43, indicating a volatility of 139.93 points. In the previous week, the volatility was 96.44 points. The largest intraday gain occurred on Tuesday, with an increase of 53.16 points and a turnover of Rs. 2.3 Arba. The total turnover for the week amounted to Rs. 8.95 Arba. In terms of trading volume, more than 2.89 crore unit shares were traded through 155,123 transactions.

    The current market capitalization of NEPSE stands at Rs. 2,74,651.40 million, which is equivalent to Rs. 27.24 Kharba. Despite the shortened trading week, the NEPSE experienced fluctuations and ended with a significant decrease in its index value.

    NMB Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (NMBMF) has released its third-quarter report for the fiscal year 2079/80, revealing a significant decline in net profit. The company’s net profit stood at Rs. 1.15 crores, representing a decrease of 89.80% compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

    Personnel expenses reported by the company for the first three quarters of the current fiscal year witnessed a slight increase of 5%, totaling Rs. 17.14 crores. Meanwhile, the operating profit experienced a substantial decline of 90% and reached Rs. 1.61 crores during the same period. The net interest income, which represents the core revenue of the microfinance institution, also decreased to Rs. 25.96 crores, reflecting a decline of 25.85% compared to the corresponding quarter of FY 078/79.

    However, concerning financial performance, NMBMF faced challenges as the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio more than doubled, reaching 8.97%. This increase indicates a higher proportion of loans in default or showing signs of financial distress.

    In terms of earnings per share (EPS), the company reported a slump to Rs. 2.34, while the net worth per share stood at Rs. 164.73 for NMBMF.

    At the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal year, the quarter-end price of NMBMF’s shares was Rs. 525.

    Gold prices in the domestic market have experienced a decline of Rs. 800 per tola. Similarly, Tejabi gold is being traded at Rs. 110,250 today, compared to yesterday’s rate of Rs. 111,050 per tola.

    In addition, the price of silver has also dropped by Rs. 55 per tola. The lustrous white metal is currently being traded at Rs. 1,375 per tola in the local market, down from the previous day’s closing rate of Rs. 1,430 per tola.

    Internationally, the current price of gold stands at USD $2,011.50 per ounce, while silver is being traded at $24 per ounce.

The company’s total revenue stood at Rs. 21.02 crores, with an increase in administrative expenses by 53.78% and a slight decrease in financial expenses.

    The paid-up capital of the company stood at Rs. 1.05 Arba, an increase of 40% compared to the previous fiscal year. However, the company suffered a significant decline in net profit due to machinery breakdown, resulting in a decrease in overall production and operations.

    Rudi Khola B Hydropower Project, one of the two projects operated by BHDC, had reported damages in the pipeline due to landslides experienced on Shrawan 18, 2079, while issues in the power transformer of the project had been reported on Falgun 01, 2079.

    According to the management analysis of the company, the decline in net profits was primarily due to machinery breakdown, resulting in adverse impacts on the company’s overall profitability. Despite the decline, the annualized earnings per share for BHDC stood at Rs. 8.15, while the net worth per share was Rs. 113.69.

    Grameen Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (GBLBS) has reported a net profit of Rs. 5.9 Crores in the third quarter of FY 2079/2080, marking a 79.19% decrease compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The company’s net interest income decreased by 26.48% to Rs. 67.31 Crores, while its borrowings decreased by 16.70% to Rs. 5.70 Arba and deposits decreased by 4.55% to Rs. 3.75 Arba. The company’s loans and advances also decreased by 10.03% to Rs. 12.71 Arba in this quarter. Non-performing loans increased to 7.94% from 4.23% in the corresponding quarter, while annualized earnings per share (EPS) stands at Rs. 8.01 and net worth per share is Rs. 235.87.
