Senior Vice President of the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation), Chiranjibi Adhikari, has said that data centers and cloud services are the real backbone of the Nepal digital economy.
Speaking at the CAN B2B Summit 2025 in Lalitpur, he said Nepal cannot achieve real digital transformation without strong, secure, and reliable digital infrastructure. He added that technology is no longer just a convenience but the foundation of today’s economy.
Cloud Services Support Business Growth and Innovation
Adhikari explained that cloud computing in Nepal helps startups, IT companies, and large industries grow faster. Cloud services reduce heavy costs for servers and security. This allows businesses to focus on innovation, expansion, and exports.
He said the growing interest of Nepali youth in e-commerce, fintech, and IT service exports can only bring real economic results if Nepal has a strong cloud ecosystem.
Global Digital Infrastructure Growth and Nepal’s Opportunity
Sharing global data, Adhikari said the global data center market is expected to cross USD 602 billion by 2030. Countries like India, Singapore, and Estonia are ahead because they invested early in digital infrastructure.
He urged Nepal to create a long-term strategy to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in data centers and cloud services.
Cybersecurity, Skills, and Digital Inclusion Challenges
Adhikari admitted that Nepal digital sector still faces risks like weak cybersecurity and a lack of skilled manpower. To solve this, he suggested three major reforms.
These include clear and friendly laws on data protection, cybersecurity policy, and data localization. He also stressed the need for universities and industries to work together to produce job-ready IT professionals.
He further said the Telecommunications Development Fund should be used properly to expand digital services outside Kathmandu and support rural digital inclusion.
Positive Outlook for NEPSE and Tech-Related Stocks
Experts believe strong growth in the IT sector and digital infrastructure can support long-term economic growth. This is a positive signal for NEPSE today, Nepal share market, and investors watching technology stocks, banking sector NEPSE, and hydropower shares.
Better digital systems also support fintech companies, online payments, and capital market transparency, which help improve NEPSE index performance over time.
Nepal Can Become a Regional Tech Hub
Adhikari said Nepal has strong potential to become a South Asia technology hub. With the right policies and public-private partnerships, Nepal can attract global investors to its cloud infrastructure and data center projects.
He concluded by thanking sponsors, exhibitors, and CAN Federation members and said only teamwork can take the Nepal technology sector to new heights.
