The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index faced a sharp decline today, closing at 2,894.57 points, down by 79.88 points or 2.68% compared to the last trading session. This comes after a modest gain of 6.01 points in the previous session, where the index had closed at 2,974.46 points.
The trading day began with the NEPSE Index opening at 2,987.06 points. Throughout the day, the index saw considerable fluctuations, peaking at an intraday high of 2,990.04 points and dropping to a low of 2,885.39 points before finally settling at 2,894.57 points.
Today’s session was marked by intense trading activity. A total of 333 scrips were traded in 218,578 transactions, involving 42,686,640 shares, which resulted in a turnover of Rs. 19.74 Arba. The market capitalization reached Rs. 45.97 Kharba, with the float market capitalization standing at Rs. 16.24 Kharba.
Api Power Company Ltd. (API) emerged as the leader in terms of turnover, recording Rs. 84.68 Crore, with its share price closing at Rs. 367.
In the broader market, three companies hit the upper circuit limit of 10%, demonstrating strong investor interest. On the downside, Mandakini Hydropower Limited (MHL) recorded the largest loss of the day, falling by 9.91%.
Sector-wise analysis showed mixed results. The Microfinance Index was the only sector index that ended in positive territory, gaining 1.08%. On the other hand, the Investment Index faced the heaviest losses, dropping by 3.83%.
