    The number of demat accounts registered has surpassed 4.66 million units, indicating that an increasing number of investors are becoming interested in investing in the country’s stock exchange.

    CDS and Clearing Limited reports that the number of demat accounts has increased by approximately 50% in the last eight months. The of demat accounts has increased significantly, mostly as a of the first lockout, which was implemented by the government in March 2020. The number of units sold increased by more than 1.5 million units in the fiscal year 2020/21 alone.

    Over 7.78 billion units of shares been registered under demat accounts as of the date of this writing. Similar to this, the number of people who utilize Meroshare, an online platform that allows them to invest in fresh shares by publicly traded firms, has surpassed 3.78 million.

    According to the information kept by the CDS and Clearing, the vast majority of demat account holders are also main share investors. Demat transactions on the Nepal Stock Exchange become mandatory as of August 2015, according to the authorities.
