KATHMANDU: On Thursday morning, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel took an oath of office and secrecy.
During a ceremony held at Singha Durbar this morning, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba administered the oath of office and secrecy to Poudel. Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Gurung, both NCP members, were also sworn in.
Poudel earned his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Gurung have also been appointed to the NPC.
When former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli lost the prime ministership after losing a confidence vote on May 10, 2021, the NPC’s office-bearers were immediately removed. From the Maoist Center quota, Phuyal and Gurung were appointed to the NPC.
The remaining NPC office-bearers will be appointed from the UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal group and the Janata Samajbadi Party’s Upendra Yadav faction in the future.
