Gautam Das Shrestha, a veteran hotel owner and past president of the Hotel Association of Nepal, passed away on Monday. He was 83 years old.
According to the group, Shrestha died in the Medicity Hospital in Lalitpur after a protracted struggle with cancer, which began in 2008.
As the son of Durga Das Shrestha and Haridevi Shrestha in Tumbahal, Kathmandu, Shrestha ran the Sherpa Hotel on Durbar Marg and the Safari Narayani Hotel in Chitwan, both of which were operated by his father.
For a period of five years, from 1993 to 1998, Shrestha served as president of the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN).
His wife, two kids, and two daughters are all left to mourn his passing.
According to the Nepal Hotel Association, Shrestha’s death has caused irreversible harm to the country’s tourism economy.
“Gautam Das Shrestha, the sixth President of the Himalayan Association of Nepal, left us this morning at 2:30 a.m. for his heavenly abode,” hotelier Yogendra Sakya wrote on Twitter.
“Despite his advanced age and a slew of medical concerns, he was nevertheless bursting with energy and eager to host friends at his home. “Those magnificent get-togethers in your Jamshikhel house, Gautam Dai, will be remembered fondly by all of your friends and family for a lifetime!!”
