    Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 5 billion more in revenue than they had anticipated.

    In the first four months of the current fiscal year, the Birgunj Customs Office earned customs income totaling Rs 70.12 billion, about eight percent more than the office’s objective of Rs 65.11 billion for the period, according to a report released on November 24.

    The port of Birgunj serves as one of Nepal’s most important entrance for exports to India and other foreign countries. According to the Department of Customs (DoC), the amount of collected by the customs office exceeded the objective by more than Rs 5 billion the middle of July and the middle of November.

    Following a period of decrease as a result of the effects of the coronavirus epidemic, the country’s cross-border trade has experienced a significant increase. While doing its audit, the customs office collected Rs 24.41 billion in customs duty, exceeding the target of Rs 24.12 billion set for the period under review. Additionally, the collection of value added tax was Rs 26.48 billion, compared to the objective of Rs 20.81 billion for the month of December 2017.

    According to the Department of Commerce, customs revenue collection on vehicle imports climbed by 28 percent, while revenue collection on imports increased by 33 percent, among other things.
