Madi Rural Municipality-1 in Kaski has been linked to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s central transmission line (NEA). Since June 15, 650 homes in Sikles, Parche, and Khilang villages have been without power.
Sikles is a popular tourist destination in Kaski. The national grid assisted in restoring electricity on Saturday. The Madi River floods on June 15 damaged the local hydropower project, bringing the electricity supply to a halt.
Bed Bahadur Gurung, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, switched on a communal electric metre on Saturday to inaugurate the electricity supply from the national grid. For the time being, there is a communal metre box for 650 families because it is believed that fixing an individual metre box will take time.
Power outages had impacted the delivery of services by ward offices, banks, cooperatives, and ACAP offices, among others. It also had an impact on telecommunications. The flood had wrecked a half-dozen hydropower projects, including one that was under development on the Madi River’s banks.
